Police: Officer suffers medical emergency; strikes vehicle stopped at red light

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police are investigating a crash involving a squad car that happened shortly before 9 a.m. Monday, September 1st.

According to police, a 22-year-old officer assigned to District 6 was driving the squad southbound on Miller Park Way when he struck a Toyota Camry stopped at the red light at W. National Avenue.

The cause remains under investigation, but it appears that the officer experienced a medical emergency shortly before the crash.

The officer was taken to the hospital.

A 35-year-old woman from Wauwatosa, who was an occupant of the Camry, was also taken to the hospital.

On Tuesday, September 2nd, police said the 22-year-old officer has been released from the hospital. He has been placed on desk duty, pending the outcome of additional tests.

The 35-year-old woman has been treated and released, according to police.
