Police seek hit-and-run driver who struck house in New Berlin

NEW BERLIN (WITI) — The New Berlin Police Department is seeking the suspect responsible for a hit-and-run accident to a single-family residence on S. Daisy Ct.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 16th and caused approximately $40,000 in damage to the house and its contents.

"One in the morning watching TV and then a thunderous boom crash," described Miles Thompson, whose home was damaged. "The whole window was smashed out."

Thompson was lying on his sofa in the living room when a truck smashed through his back door, missing him by just a few feet.

"I look over here and this truck is coming up with glass just kind of flying to the wall," said Thompson. "As I sat up to look at him, his cab was almost all the way in the house and I says 'hey, what are you doing?' And he didn't even look at me or respond, he just slammed his truck in reverse and backed out the hole he made for himself."

Officials describe the suspect vehicle as a 2003-2006 GMC Sierra, dark blue in color, with Goodyear Wrangler tires and front-end damage.

"There was no license plate left behind, but some grill pieces we were able to track down," said New Berlin Police Captain Mike Glider. "It's got front-end damage, it's got damage to the roof of the vehicle, it had damage to the passenger side."

Area body shops tell police they haven't seen the vehicle in question.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s with a slender build and wearing a backwards baseball cap.

"I can't fathom what kind of a person would leave the scene of an accident without wondering if he hurt anybody," said Thompson.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call New Berlin Police or Crimestoppers.
