Portillo's moves ahead with location at 84South in Greenfield

GREENFIELD -- Portillo's Italian beef sandwiches and Chicago-style hot dogs are coming to Greenfield.

Earlier this week, the Chicago-based restaurant chain cleared its first hurdle with the city of Greenfield's plan commission to open a restaurant at the emerging 84South development. It will be the second Wisconsin location for Portillo's, which opened its first restaurant in the state in mid-July at The Corridor in Brookfield.

Earlier this summer, the Milwaukee Business Journal reported that the 84South development in Greenfield, as well as Madison, would be the two likely places that a Portillo's restaurant would pop up next. On Wednesday evening, the Greenfield plan commission recommended approval to the city's common council for a planned unit development amendment for the eatery.
