MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett announced on Monday, September 14th that two local organizations have received grants for their apprenticeship programs. Both grants from the U.S. Labor Department are worth $3 million.
The mayor says the apprenticeship programs show another great partnership between government and private companies.
"Institutions that work with private employers to try to get people again into that jobs pipeline," said Barrett. "That's the key word, key phrase. The job pipeline, and getting people into the positive momentum that they need in their lives to match the positive momentum that's going in here in the City of Milwaukee."
The grants are expected to create more than 700 new apprenticeships. Some of the fields that will be covered include information technology (IT), health care and hospitality.
