Pregnant woman arrested after fleeing from police, crashing into fire hydrant
MOUNT PLEASANT -- A 24-year-old Racine woman was arrested Wednesday night, December 23rd after she crashed into a fire hydrant while fleeing from police.
The incident started after Mount Pleasant police officers were dispatched to the Dollar Tree located at 5201 Washington Avenue (near Washington and S. Green Bay Road) in the Village of Mount Pleasant in reference to a person who requested assistance due to locking their keys inside of their car.
When officers arrived on scene, they discovered that the 24-year-old Racine woman had multiple warrants for her arrest between from the Racine Police Department and Mount Pleasant Police Department.
Authorities say the woman was given an opportunity to satisfy the warrants, but instead fled from officers to the area of Washington and Roosevelt, where she lost control of her vehicle and struck a fire hydrant. She then attempted to flee on foot but was caught and taken into custody by officers.
Due to her accident, coupled with the information learned that she was seven months pregnant, the woman was transported to the Wheaton Franciscan Emergency Room for her safety.
The woman faces numerous charges in addition to the warrants.
This matter is now being handled by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office.
