GREEN BAY — Prosecutors say a defendant charged with killing a Green Bay man inflicted 175 stab wounds on the victim.
Andres Garcia-Saenz, 22, is being held on $500,000 bond on a charge of first-degree intentional homicide in the death of 73-year-old Douglas Campbell.
Police were asked to check on Campbell March 17 when he failed to show up for work. The house appeared to be ransacked, the complaint said.
Besides the stab wounds, an autopsy showed the victim also had a blunt force injury to the back of his head consistent with a hammer found in the house.
Police said they found text messages between the victim and Garcia-Saenz and that the defendant told them he and Campbell met on a dating app and that he had gone to his house to hang out.
WLUK-TV reports investigators said they found Campbell’s clothing, credit cards, ID, shoes, and other items at the defendant's home.
He repeatedly denied any involvement in the murder, and offered varying explanations for his time at Campbell’s home and why he had Campbell’s possessions, according to the complaint.
Garcia-Saenz's public defender did not immediately return a call for comment.
