Racial slur

What we know:

The N-word was printed on a sticker Makayla Starks received. A protest outside the Kunes Buick GMC dealership took place Saturday, and her attorney is calling for people to boycott the dealership.

Kunes Buick GMC admitted the slur was typed by an employee who was terminated, and said initially, using the N-word was intended to be a joke between coworkers. Now the company is conducting an internal investigation.

Starks and her attorney, William Sulton, say more needs to be done.

Local perspective:

"I actually have it covered right now with a Post-it note because I don’t want to see that when I get into my car," Starks said. "I would absolutely describe this as racism, discrimination."

Starks shared a screenshot of a message saying someone was coming to her house to get a tool that was left in her car. She didn't check the sticker until receiving a message saying workers were trying to "exchange the proof."

Starks also said her car was damaged, and she can't access her safety features. Her vehicle also still notifies her that she's in need of an oil change.

"They didn’t change the oil it appears, the car didn’t work like it did when she drove it in, and she has the N-word put on her car, and then we have a bunch of lies after that," Sulton said.

Starks said she also got a visit from Oak Creek police at her West Allis home. However, she hasn't filed a report. Oak Creek police say it's standard to follow up when there's a possible victim.

A Milwaukee County woman said she went for an oil change and became a victim of racism. The N-word was printed on a sticker she received.

"I think that’s an inconsistent statement. Also, what kind of police officer decides to go to somebody’s house at 10 p.m. at night to interview?" Sulton said.

Sulton said he is waiting to hear back from Kunes Buick GMC before filing a lawsuit. He also says he is getting calls from other customers who have claimed they have dealt with discrimination.
