Racine Co. Sheriff's officials investigating attempted child abduction
RACINE (WITI) -- Racine County Sheriff's officials are investigating an attempted child abduction in the Village of Waterford.
Officials say the incident occurred on Wednesday, February 20th around 3:30 p.m.
The child abduction attempt was reported by a 15-year-old girl’s father who stated that the attempt happened in the 200 block of Washington St.
Officials responded to the area and made contact with the 15-year-old female victim and her family.
The victim reported that as she was walking home a late 90s or early 2000s silver vehicle similar to a Buick Regal drove passed her and then stopped. The male driver then exited the vehicle and began yelling at the girl asking if she had any friends and if she had a boyfriend.
The girl stated no and started to walk away from the male faster as the male continued to follow her.
The girl then stated that she started to run towards her house when the man grabbed her by her hooded sweatshirt and started to pull her back towards the vehicle that he had exited from. The girl was able to break away from the subject, started screaming and was able to run back to her house and the male left the area in the vehicle.
The description of the male suspect is a white male, approximately 6 feet tall, approximately 180-200 lbs with a medium build, with a brown scruffy beard, wearing blue jeans, a dark green jacket, sunglasses and a baseball cap.
No suspect was located in the area during a neighborhood check.
Waterford High School has been notified of the incident since it involved a student from their high school. The Waterford School District Superintendent has also been notified.
The Racine County Sheriff’s Office will have extra patrols in the area of the Waterford Schools during school hours and will be continuing the investigation into this incident.
