Racine County K-9 unit finds bags of marijuana during traffic stop; Chicago man admits it's his
RACINE COUNTY -- A 25-year-old Chicago man is charged after a Racine County K-9 found marijuana in his vehicle Tuesday night, Jan. 23.
Christian Olvera, 25, faces one count of possession with intent to deliver or manufacture THC, greater than 1,000 but less than 2,500 grams, second and subsequent offense.
According to a criminal complaint, Olvera was stopped on I-94 at Mile Marker 333.2 in Racine County around 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 23. During the traffic stop, a deputy "smelled a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle," and 28 marijuana "roaches" were observed in the ash tray, along with a clear plastic zipper soft case containing a blue blanket, with freezer-size plastic bags inside. Those bags contained separate knotted baggies of suspected marijuana -- 32 in all. All of it weighed more than 1,000 grams and tested positive for marijuana.
The complaint says Olvera admitted the marijuana was his. He said he bought it in Chicago for $5,500 and he was on his way to Milwaukee. He said the marijuana was for personal use, but the complaint notes that's unlikely due to the amount and the fact that it was individually packaged in amounts consistent with selling.
Olvera made his initial appearance in court in this case on Jan. 24. Cash bond was set at $5,000. He's due in court for his preliminary hearing on Jan. 31.
