Racine dodges another snow storm, saves money

RACINE (WITI) -- The city of Racine has yet to get hit with a significant snowfall this season. Depending on how you look at it, it's a good or bad thing.

On the downside, fans of winter in Racine want to know what's going on? Why aren't they allowed the opportunity to have fun in the snow. The only sign it's winter can be found in the downtown area -- where the snow sculptures have avoided melting.

On the plus side, a lack of snow in Racine means big savings for municipalities that would normally be spending lots of money on snow plowing and overtime. Once again, the snow is melting on the roads and only slightly sticking to grassy surfaces.

The Racine Zoo is open year-round. While the goats, tigers and lions don't seem to care what the weather is, no snow on the ground means good news for the zoo's budget.

"Utilities of course would be the other line item where we see a positive impact," said Jay Christie of the Racine Zoo.

Whatever the weather, people in Racine are wondering now if winter will ever arrive this season.
