Racine Fire Department: Kid playing with lighter caused Racine house fire
RACINE (WITI) -- Racine fire crews responded to a two-story, two-family home near 13th and Cleveland Avenue in Racine on Tuesday, July 15th after a fire broke out.
According to officials, the fire broke out in a bed in an upper unit bedroom due to the careless use of lighter by a 14-year-old boy.
Authorities say the boy thought he extinguished the fire and left room. However, within minutes he noticed smoke and could not enter the room due heat and smoke.
The boy called 911 and self-evacuated the home.
Officials say the fire also caused damage to a garage next door to this residence.
The fire caused an estimated $57,000 in damage.
No injuries were sustained as a result of the fire.
