RACINE (WITI) -- A 48-year-old man was injured after a broke out in his home early Thursday morning, July 17th.
The fire broke out just before 1 a.m. in a home on Glendale Avenue near Drexel Avenue.
According to officials, the 48-year-old man was sleeping in the living room when he woke to smoke and flames in the kitchen.
Authorities say he was able to self-evacuate, but did sustain injuries while leaving the home.
He was transported to Wheaton Franciscan -- All Saints for treatment by the Racine Fire Department.
Authorities say there were two dogs and two cats in the home at the time of the fire. One cat died as a result of the fire.
The cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation.
