Racine man accused of sending threatening text messages
RACINE CO. (WITI) -- A 42-year-old Racine man is accused of texting obsessively. But these weren't your run-of-the-mill text messages. William Crockett now faces several charges of threatening and obscene computer messaging and stalking.
According to the criminal complaint, Crockett caused his victims to "suffer emotional distress or placed them in reasonable fear of bodily injury or death to themselves or a member of their family."
In one case, the victim said he received a text from Crockett and thought it was her brother -- but soon realized it was not. The complaint indicates Crockett wouldn't stop texting her and began to threaten her -- telling her he would break into her house, rape her, impregnate her, hunt he and kill her.
The victim told police it seemed Crockett knew her daily routine and last winter, she saw footprints in the snow around her vehicle and house. She said "she would place a 2x4 in front of her back door for extra security" and has been sleeping with a gun next to her bed.
The original number of alleged victims of Crockett was 13. But that is apparently growing.
Crockett's bond was set at $75,000 in court on Wednesday, August 14th -- and he's restricted from using a cell phone.
If you think you've received a call from Crockett, the Racine County Sheriff's Department urges you to give them a call at 262-636-3323.
