Racine man accused of striking police squad while driving drunk
RACINE (WITI) -- 49-year-old Michael Brown of Racine faces a charge of operating while intoxicated causing injury. This, for striking a Caledonia Police Department squad while allegedly driving drunk.
The criminal complaint against Brown indicates a Caledonia officer was parked on State Highway 31 around 9:30 p.m. on Monday, July 29th. The officer indicated her squad's emergency lights and headlights were on at the time. That's when "a vehicle being operated by Michael Brown...struck the front end of her squad." The officer indicated she had soreness in her neck and back area. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The complaint indicates another officer "noticed a smell of intoxicants on (Brown's) breath and slurring of speech." Brown told the officer he had "three shots of Rumplemintz, and that he was driving the vehicle, and that he hit the squad because of the darkness of the road and that he did not see the squad car because the lights were not on."
The officer performing the field sobriety tests on Brown indicated he failed them. Brown later consented to a legal blood draw.
If convicted, Brown faces up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
