Racine man arrested after drugs, guns recovered from home
RACINE -- A 20-year-old Racine man was arrested on Friday, Sept. 7 and is facing charges after a search warrant was executed at his residence, and marijuana and firearms were recovered.
Diego Salais faces four charges:
According to a criminal complaint, during a search of the home near LaSalle and Jackson, authorities located 607.9 grams of marijuana, a digital sale, packaging materials, a 45-caliber handgun, a shotgun, cellphones and $5,675.
The complaint says Salais was located at the home, along with several adults and several children, all under the age of 3.
Before a SWAT team agent could even identify himself, prosecutors say Salais said he had some marijuana in his bedroom. The complaint says he admitted that all of the marijuana in the home was his, and he admitted to buying it to sell, "to take care of his family." He further admitted to obtaining the two firearms found in the home "because he was shot at recently." When asked if he was working, the complaint says Salais told investigators "that's why I'm doing what I'm doing." He also stated he was selling marijuana because his father had passed away recently and his mother was in the hospital, and said he used the proceeds to pay rent.
Salais made his initial appearance in court on Sept. 10. A preliminary hearing was set for Sept. 19, and cash bond was set at $4,000.
