Racine police change report of abandoned baby to "rescue run"
RACINE — Racine police say their investigation into a report of an abandoned newborn has changed.
Lt. Al Days said the Tuesday, March 22nd incident is now being handled as a "rescue run."
Police had first reported that officers responded to a residence about 3 a.m. on a report of a newborn abandoned outside. Officers said they found the baby inside when they arrived and discovered the mother is a 17-year-old girl.
Investigators said she told them she didn't know she was pregnant and panicked.
Days said there were no arrests.
The child and mother were taken to Wheaton Franciscan Medical Center.
