Racine police seeking suspect following tactical situation
RACINE (WITI) -- Racine police say a tactical situation that began near W. 6th Street and Jones Ave. on Thursday afternoon, September 5th has come to an end, though a suspect was not able to be apprehended.
Police say the tactical situation stemmed from an armed robbery that occurred September 4th around 8:40 p.m. in the 1300 block of Lincoln Street.
Police say the victim was robbed at gunpoint in the street.
A suspect has been identified in the case; 23-year-old Tony Ruffin, also known as "Frog."
Police say on Thursday afternoon, dispatchers received a call from a victim who had located the suspect in the robbery and chased him down while calling police.
The suspect ran into a residence in the 200 block of Frank Ave., and was said to be armed with a gun. Officers arrived and a perimeter was established around the residence. Due to the potential for violence and the belief that the suspect was armed and hiding in the home, SWAT and Negotiators were activated to assist in bringing about a safe and peaceful resolution.
Upon making entry to the home, the suspect was not located. It was later determined that the suspect fled prior to the perimeter being established. Racine Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating Tony Ruffin.
