Racine woman arrested for first OWI with child in vehicle
RACINE (WITI) -- A 25-year-old Racine woman was arrested early Friday morning, April 4th for operating while impaired with a child under 16 years of age in the vehicle.
According to police, deputies stopped the woman around 3 a.m. in the village of Mount Pleasant for speeding and lane deviation. While speaking with the operator, the deputy noticed an unrestrained 15-month-old child lying in the backseat.
During the traffic stop, it was determined that the woman was impaired due to consumption of alcohol and marijuana.
Racine County Human Services was contacted and the child was released from the scene to a relative.
The woman was arrested for the following: two outstanding warrants, one from the City of Racine Police Dept., one from the City of Oak Creek Police Dept., Operating while impaired 1st offense with a child under 16 years old in the vehicle.
She was issued citations for violation of child safety restraint, deviation from designated lane, and operating without a valid driver’s license.
The woman was turned over to the Racine County Jail on the above charges.
