Relief at UW-Milwaukee after arrests made following armed robbery on campus
MILWAUKEE -- After an armed robbery on the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee campus, and others near campus, some students said they were growing concerned for their safety. But there's some good news from Milwaukee police, who say three arrests have been made.

According to UWM's website, an attempted armed robbery happened just after 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 28th on the exterior steps between the Chemistry Building and Lapham Hall. The suspect was armed with a shotgun and approached the student from behind. The suspect demanded property, at which time the student fled from the area.
The student was not hurt and the suspect did not get any property. The suspect then fled southbound from the scene through the parking lot towards Kenwood Boulevard.
"I am concerned," Marc Webster, a student at UWM said.
"It`s ridiculous that they`re going around doing this on a college campus. I mean, we`re supposed to feel safe," Mauri Dismukes, a student at UWM said.

UWM police said they were working with the Milwaukee Police Department. MPD said they were also investigating robberies that occurred near Oakland and Kenwood as well as along Locust Avenue near the Milwaukee River.
The Milwaukee Police Department provided the following details on these incidents:
Milwaukee police investigated a strong arm robbery that happened on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at about 2:05 a.m. in the 1300 block of E. Locust Street (near Locust and Humboldt). Four suspects approached the victim from a vehicle, struck him and obtained his property.
Milwaukee police investigated an armed robbery that happened on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at about 3:00 a.m. in the 3100 block of N. Oakland Avenue (near Oakland and Kenwood). Two suspects approached the victim on foot, pointed a firearm, and took the victim’s property.
Milwaukee police investigated an armed robbery that on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at about 3:05 a.m. in the 2600 block of W. Hadley Street (near 26th and Hadley). Two suspects exited a white four door Nissan possibly a Maxima, approached the victim and displayed a firearm. One suspect took the victim’s vehicle.
"We had been working very closely with the Milwaukee Police Department," UWM Police Chief Joseph LeMire said.

On Thursday afternoon, LeMire says he learned arrests have been made in connection with the robbery that occurred on campus.
"They have three people in custody based on an investigation, and they have tied those people to the robbery, or the attempted robbery that happened here on campus," Chief LeMire said.
LeMire said the other crimes near campus were close enough that it was important to make students aware of them, but he stresses that they did not occur on campus.
"It`s a big relief to people, because it`s not the type of crime that happens. In fact, an armed robbery directly on campus is very, very rare," Chief LeMire said.
