Report: University of Wisconsin System's net worth increased in fiscal year 2015
MADISON -- The University of Wisconsin System's net worth has increased.
A system financial report released Monday shows the system finished the year that ended June 30 with $6.68 billion in net worth. Almost $4.4 billion of that is tied up in buildings and equipment.
The system finished the previous fiscal year with $6.33 billion. System officials attributed the increase largely to unspent bond proceeds and new accounting guidelines that called for including the system's share of the state's pension fund.
The system lost $127.75 million during the year, mostly due to interest payments on debt and a $73 million transfer to state agencies.
The report doesn't take into account state budget provisions that cut $250 million from the system. Those cuts didn't go into effect until this fiscal year.
