Republicans Stroebel, Schlenvogt both announce runs for Senate
MADISON (AP) — Two Republicans have announced bids to succeed state Sen. Glenn Grothman in the state Senate after he won election to Congress.
Ozaukee County Board Chairman Lee Schlenvogt and state Rep. Duey Stroebel both say they are running.
Sheboygan Press Media reports Wednesday that Schlenvogt announced his candidacy on Sunday. Stroebel, who lost to Grothman in the Republican primary for Congress, announced Monday.
Stroebel, of Cedarburg, has been in the state Assembly since May 2011.
Schlenvogt is a dairy farmer who has served on the Ozaukee County Board of Supervisors for seven years.
Gov. Scott Walker will call a special election once Grothman officially resigns.
The district includes most of Washington, eastern Fond du Lac, northern Ozaukee, western Sheboygan, and southern Calumet counties.
