Robbery of delivery driver: Bicycle officers see it happening, take action

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Five suspects are arrested for their involvement in a strong arm robbery and hitting a District Five officer with their stolen vehicle.

Two bicycle officers were on patrol near Booth and Burleigh just after 11:30 p.m. on Monday, August 18th when they saw a strong armed robbery occurring. A female suspect, accompanied by others in a van, was robbing a delivery driver. The officer ordered the van’s driver to turn off the vehicle but she accelerated forward hitting the officer and forcing him onto the hood and then to the ground. The officer heard someone yell “get him” and fearing for his safety fired two rounds at the vehicle, striking and flattening a tire.

The van sped off and crashed into a pole a block away. Everyone in the van took off on foot -- and were taken into custody a short time later.

None of them were struck by the officer’s rounds.

The van was reported stolen earlier in the evening in West Milwaukee.

The officer, who is 36-years-old with 11 years of service, was not hurt as a result of the van striking him.

The suspects arrested are a 14-year-old male, a 14-year-old female, a 15-year-old female, a 16-year-old female, and a 17-year-old female, all from Milwaukee.  MPD will present this case to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
