Scare on Halloween morning: Woman finds unknown man asleep on her couch
WASHINGTON COUNTY -- Washington County Sheriff's officials say they were called out to a home this past weekend after a man unknown to the homeowners was found sleeping on the coach.
Sheriff's officials were dispatched shortly after 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 31st to a home in Washington County.
Officials learned a woman who lives in the home noticed shoes in the back hallway that didn't belong to anyone who lived in the home. She then found a man whom she doesn't know sleeping on the couch in her living room.
Concerned, the woman woke up her husband.
"She said 'get up now. There's a stranger on our couch,'" said the male homeowner, who did not want to be identified.
"I was furious. Adrenaline was pumping. I was trying to figure out what was going on and trying to get the person out of our house," the homeowner said.
The female homeowner immediately dialed 911.
The man sleeping on the couch didn't want to identify himself to the homeowners, officials say, but he did remain at the home until sheriff's officials arrived, and he cooperated with the investigation.
"The individual told me all that he remembers is he was drinking. He was at a bar down on Brady Street down in Milwaukee," the homeowner said.
The man told deputies he was drinking in Milwaukee, and he didn't know where he left his vehicle. It was determined that the man had entered the home through the door for the dog.
"In hindsight, obviously, there`s some things we have to change. It was kind of a scary situation," the male homeowner said.
Sheriff's deputies located the man's vehicle near the home he eventually entered.
The man was not arrested. The homeowners didn't wish to file charges in this case, according to sheriff's officials.
Sheriff's officials ended up giving the man a ride home.
