Schmidt faces additional charges in Waukesha County
WAUKESHA -- 21-year-old Daniel Schmidt faces an additional 13 child pornography charges in Waukesha County, added to the child sexual assault charge he's already facing. But it was a drug investigation, that led to three new drug charges for Schmidt.
Schmidt pleaded not guilty on Friday, June 15th to second degree sexual assault of a child. This, for allegedly meeting and having sexual contact with a 13-year-old boy. That alleged contact prompted a partial shutdown of Skout.com, a social networking site.
On Monday, Schmidt stood before a Waukesha County judge facing multiple charges, including possession of child pornography.
According to the criminal complaint, Schmidt was involved in a high-speed chase in March with officers conducting a drug investigation. Schmidt consented to them viewing his cell phone. There they found text messages discussing having sex with a 14-year-old, and other messages suggesting pornography on his computer.
"He's got a lot of problems right now, so hopefully he can get put back on the right path cause it's pretty troubling," Capt. Ron Oremus said.
The complaint states after obtaining a search warrant, investigators found many pictures and video of underage children engaged in sex acts, some of them toddlers. All of this occurred after prosecutors say Schmidt sold drugs to a confidential informant.
The prosecution asked for a cash bail of $75,000 for the child porn case. The court commissioner made it $200,000.
Schmidt was also ordered to have no unsupervised contact with any male under the age of 18. He cannot use any device that can connect to the internet or have any contact with the "Big Brothers/Big Sisters" organization.
Schmidt also faces some drug charges ranging from manufacturing and delivering THC and maintaining a drug house.
