Search delayed for man missing in Washington state avalanche
(CNN) -- The search for a missing man who was caught in an avalanche in Washington state over the weekend will be delayed until at least Tuesday, a sheriff's department spokesman said Monday.
Poor weather conditions over the weekend continued into Monday, making efforts to find Mitch Hungate impossible, according to the King County Sheriff's Office.
Hungate, 61, was hiking with two other men when an avalanche carried all three about 1,200 feet down a slope at speeds of more than 50 mph, CNN affiliate KOMO said.
The other two men "sustained injuries," KOMO reported.
A woman caught in another avalanche died of her injuries, Larson said.
She was just behind a group of hikers close to Interstate 90 in northwest Washington when the avalanche struck. The three hikers searched for 45 minutes once they realized the woman was missing and found her buried under 5 feet of snow. She later died, according to Larson.
