Search for Thomas Hecht now in its sixth day

MILWAUKEE -- Family and friends of Thomas Hecht look to each day of their search for the missing man as a new opportunity to find him. It's that positive attitude that is driving the search for Hecht into its sixth day.

On Friday, the police captain in charge of the search spoke for the first time."We're continuing to interview friends that were last seen with Mr. Hecht. We're also following up on all leads that have thus far come into the department," said Capt. James Shepard of the Milwaukee Police Department.

The tips in the search for Hecht are plentiful thanks to thousands of flyers and massive media coverage. However, Capt. Shepard says investigators still haven't received any concrete information.

Hecht was last seen leaving Rosie's on Water St. around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 10th. After that, it's all a guessing game. "If you start with Water Street and you walk, what we believe he would have been doing, walking home, it's kind of a large area. So we're just having a contingency of officers to search any and everywhere we think where he may be," said Capt. Shepard.

If Hecht had fallen into the Milwaukee River and the worst has happened, any number of things could keep his body from being found. It's a prospect police must remain aware of -- but not one they like to dwell upon.
