Seeing red: Distinct clothing helps police quickly arrest armed robbery suspect

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police say an armed robbery suspect's distinct red clothing helped them to take him into custody.

The crime happened around 10:15 a.m. on September 21st near 76th and Green Tree Road on Milwaukee's northwest side.

Police say a 29-year-old Milwaukee woman was approached by a suspect who was wearing a red shirt and red pants. That suspect implied he had a gun, grabbed the victim’s cell phone, and struck her in the face before he fled on foot.

A Milwaukee police officer saw the suspect running away and broadcast his description.

Other officers from MPD's District Four responded and located the suspect, a 17-year-old Milwaukee male and convicted felon, inside a home on 75th Street a short time later. A relative inside the home told officers the suspect came in wearing red clothing -- but had changed before police arrived.

MPD will present this case to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days for charges.
