Semi rollover spilled 53,000 pounds of grain onto interstate during morning commute

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A semi rolled over on southbound I-94 just north of Rawson Ave. on Thursday morning, February 26th. The resulting crash spilled 53,000 pounds of grain onto the interstate.

The wreck happened just before 4:30 a.m. When the semi rolled over, it somehow collided with a Milwaukee County plow. A pole near the median also fell into the northbound lanes.

The wreck caused significant backups on southbound and northbound I-94. But officials say there was never a complete freeway closure.

The wreckage and spilled was completely cleanup by 10:30 a.m. -- nearly six hours after the incident.
