Seniors express concerns over Ryan's Medicare plan

RACINE -- Medicare was the focus of Wisconsin Democrats Wednesday, August 15th as several southeastern Wisconsin seniors are sounding off on Paul Ryan's budget proposal. This, after Ryan was announced as Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's running mate.

Seniors in Racine participated in a question and answer session regarding Ryan's proposal to turn Medicare into a voucher system as part of his budget plan.

"What will become of the seniors who cannot afford the expensive plans that Paul Ryan will be forcing them into?" one senior said.

"The sad fact of the matter is that Paul Ryan has the audacity to order a plan to end Medicare, merely so that he can pay for tax cuts for the richest Americans," another senior said.

Still others said they planned to reach out to the candidates directly, to let them know their feelings on the issue of Medicare.

Luonne Dumak with the Republican Party of Waukesha County says Ryan's plan will preserve health care and protect U.S. citizens in the years to come.

"The Democrats can be in denial, if they want. (We) have statistics that prove it. We are going broke. Social security is going broke. We have find a way to fix these, and to me, I'm a more free-market system because the free market system works 100% better than socialism, or socialized medicine," Dumak said.

Dumak said Ryan's voucher-based plan would help eliminate fraud and waste in the Medicare plan. Democrats say that will be difficult, because they say the Obama-Biden ticket will win the presidential election.
