Serial bank robbery suspect to be indicted federally
WEST BEND -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's Deputy Sergio Aleman, killed Tuesday, July 31st in a crash on I-43 southbound is credited with making a key arrest just days before he died. Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke says Deputy Aleman helped capture a 10-time bank robber. Wednesday, that suspect appeared in court.
In Washington County court Wednesday, all charges were dropped against Michael Scott of Randolph, pending a federal indictment.
The dismissal essentially ended the service of John Kuczmarski as Scott's defense attorney. The case was dropped due to sheer volume and locations.
"There are five counts in our county and I believe there are seven to nine in other counties, but because it's a multi-jurisdictional case it was referred to the federal government and they've got a hold on him right now. They'll be charging him in federal court," Washington County Assistant District Attorney Peter Cannon said.
The robbery spree began in April at Johnson Bank in Kenosha.
Surveillance cameras picked up some of Scott's confessed robberies, at banks in Kenosha, West Bend, Fond du Lac, Richfield and Delafield.
According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the robbery spree ended when an informant told Dodge County authorities Scott had asked to use his car. Investigators put a GPS tracking device on it, and Scott eventually got the car.
Scott will remain in jail until he begins the judicial process again, in federal court.
