Sheboygan dog dead; suspect arrested, taken to hospital

Sheboygan police arrested a suspect after a welfare check led to an animal mistreatment investigation on Thursday, Feb. 6.

What they're saying:

Officers went to the area of 11th and Water for a welfare check and found blood outside the home. During the course of the investigation, officers determined the subject of the welfare check and abused a dog – causing the dog's death.

A short time later, officers found the suspect downtown. Police said the suspect had a knife and didn't comply with officers' commands. Several officers responded to the scene and took the suspect into custody using "less lethal munitions and electronic control devices."

According to police, officers noticed the suspect had a number of injuries unrelated to the less lethal munitions. Officers and paramedics began life-saving attempts before the suspect was taken to an area hospital and then to a Milwaukee-area hospital.
