Sheboygan fire, 8th and Michigan, residents displaced

A Sheboygan fire left two people without their home Friday afternoon, June 30.

It happened near 8th and Michigan around 4:30 p.m. Firefighters arrived to see heavy smoke coming from the roof of a two-story building.

Firefighters found an active fire on the first floor, second floor and attic. Officials said the first floor was a business and the second flor was a residence – both of which were unoccupied at the time.

It took crews about two hours to knock down the fire and several more to open up walls and search for hidden fires and hot spots that needed to be extinguished.

Officials said two firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion but were able to resume firefighting duties later.

Two residents of a second-floor apartment were displaced because of the fire. There is an estimated loss of $175,000, according to officials.
