SHEBOYGAN (WITI) -- Sheboygan police are investigating a number of burglaries that have occurred at Sheboygan churches and businesses since November of 2013. Police say one church was hit twice in four months.
The latest incident happened on Tuesday, March 11th. Police say entry was gained to a professional building in the 1400 block of N. 8th Street -- and business burglaries were reported.
On March 7th, an attempted burglary was reported at St. Cyril and Methodius Church in the 800 block of New Jersey Avenue.
On February 23rd, a burglary was reported at St. Peter Clavier Church in the 1400 block of S. 11th Street.
"There was three police cars in the parking lot at the time. Days gone by, churches have been able to keep their doors open all day for people to come in and pray, and now we have to keep them locked. Several churches in the area have been broken into. I know whoever did this is probably looking for money for probably drugs. I hope they seek out help, because heroin is a big problem," Frederick Strassburger said.
Strassburger says police believe heroin may be the driving force behind these burglaries.
On December 2nd, a burglary was reported at Holy Family Church in the 800 block of Huron Ave.
On November 4th, a burglary was reported to St. Cyril and Methodius Church in the 800 block of New Jersey Avenue.
Sheboygan police are asking the public to take steps to minimize the risk of falling victim to a burglary:
