Sheboygan woman faces fifth drunk driving charge, accused of driving with child in car
SHEBOYGAN (WITI) -- A 39-year-old woman from Sheboygan is accused of driving drunk with a child in her vehicle -- and this is not the first time Katina Murphy has faced allegations of drunk driving.
Murphy was charged on Tuesday, February 10th with the following criminal counts: operating while intoxicated (5th offense) with a child in the vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while revoked (3rd offense) and failure to install ignition interlock device.
According to the criminal complaint, Murphy's probation and parole agent spotted Murphy driving shortly after 10 a.m. on Monday, February 9th. The agent also noticed there was a child in the car. Because the agent knew Murphy was not supposed to be driving, she called Sheboygan Police and indicated Murphy had driven to Wilson Elementary School.
The complaint indicates police responded to Wilson Elementary and approaching Murphy. She "stated that she knew she was revoked and she was not supposed to be driving due to previous OWI convictions." The officer also noticed a smell of alcohol on Murphy's breath. He asked her if she had been drinking and Murphy "admitted that she had...but she stated it was last night." The officer then gave Murphy a field sobriety test and breath test. The breath test showed her blood alcohol level was .081 -- or just past the legal limit.
Murphy has four prior convictions for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated -- from August 2008 to September 2014. If convicted, Murphy faces up to 12 years in prison and $20,000 in fines.
