Shell submits plans to repair pipeline at Mitchell Intl. Airport
MILWAUKEE -- Shell has submitted its plans for repair of the pipeline at Mitchell International Airport to the Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration, a division of the U.S. Dept. of Transportation.
As of Tuesday evening, the exact source of the leak/spill remains undetermined. However, once the government gives Shell the okay to proceed with repairs, the old pipeline will be removed from the site. It'll be analyzed to help determine what went wrong.
Shell officials say the safety and environmental impact to the airport and surrounding area are important to the company. They say while the pipeline is down, Shell will do what it can to minimize the impact to Milwaukee and travelers at Mitchell.
