Sheriff: Man died after van struck cement sign on I-94 WB at 16th Street
MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee County medical examiner late Monday afternoon, Aug. 5 was called out to a fatal crash on I-94 westbound at 16th Street.
Officials with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said it happened around 11 a.m. When deputies arrived on scene, they found a van between the city barrier wall and the freeway guardrail, where the vehicle came to a stop after striking a cement sign.
Life-saving measures were performed by the Milwaukee Fire Department, and the driver, a man, was taken to the hospital, where he died.
MCSO officials identified him as Gustave Sorenson of Sturtevant.
An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 6.
The cause of the crash was under investigation.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said two lanes were closed on I-94 westbound between 16th Street and 25th Street due to the crash.
