Sheriff's deputy speaks out after saving attorney's life
MILWAUKEE -- Two Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputies had to act fast after long-time defense attorney Bradley Bloch of Waukesha had a heart attack in the courtroom.
Monday morning, June 11th, in courtroom 623, Bloch and his client were in front of the judge for a misdemeanor plea and sentencing, when suddenly, Bloch stopped talking and began to collapse.
Sheriff's Deputy John Schroeder was next door, in courtroom 622 when he got a radio call regarding the incident. "We initiated CPR, and it continued for about two to three cycles of compressions and breaths," Schroeder said.
Meanwhile, another deputy arrived with an automated external defibrillator (AED).
CPR and the AED turned out to be the best remedy before medical crews arrived and rushed Bloch to the hospital.
Schroeder said he's not taking all the credit in the "courtroom rescue." He said it was a team effort across the board, between the deputies, the medical staff and the defibrillator that helped save Bloch's life.
Bloch was taken to Columbia St. Mary's Hospital where he remained in the intensive care unit as of Wednesday, June 13th.
