Sheriff's officials: 22 weekend drunken driver arrests

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- At the start of this year, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke ordered an aggressive weekend Driving Under the Influence (DUI) initiative to rid the Milwaukee County freeway system of drunken drivers.

This weekend’s initiative from Friday, March 29th at 6:00 p.m. through Sunday, March 31st at 6:00 a.m. resulted in the arrest of 22 drunken drivers.

Seven of these were repeat offenders, and one of the DUI-1st offenders is a correctional officer with the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday for making an improper left turn on N. 4th Street at McKinley Avenue.  The 27-year-old driver is a Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office correctional officer who was off duty.  She was cited for DUI-1st.

On Friday, March 29 at 6:35 p.m., a deputy observed a pickup truck deviating lanes on westbound I-94 at S. 60th Street and stopped the vehicle at S. 76th Street.

Theodore Grenier

32-year-old Theodore Grenier of Greenfield, appeared confused and was unsuccessful in performing standardized field sobriety tests.  He was taken into custody for DUI- 4th/drugs within five years and Operating with a Controlled Substance 4th within five years.  Grenier’s prior DUI convictions occurred in August 2006, March 2007 and October 2009.  If convicted of both new charges, he faces up to two years in prison.

Arrested for DUI-3rd were 32-year-old Dominic Angelello and 31-year-old Jason Tikusis of Oconomowoc.

Those arrested for their second DUI included: 25-year-old Alissa Schroeder, 53-year-old Susan Mueller and 31-year-old Anthony Cichy -- all of Milwaukee.

33-year-old Josef Shomperlen of Shorewood, was cited for DUI-1st, but has a pending DUI-1st against him.  If convicted of his prior, this offense will become a DUI-2nd.
