Sheriff's officials seek charges against 24-year-old driver after wrong-way, head-on crash

GREENFIELD -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials are seeking charges against a 24-year-old driver accused in a wrong-way, head-on crash on I-894 early Sunday morning, March 6th.

Sheriff's officials got a call around 2:30 a.m. regarding a wrong-way driver on I-894 at Greenfield Avenue.

The caller indicated the 24-year-old driver from West Allis was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-894.

Eventually, officials say the driver crashed head-on into a box truck while heading eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-43 at 92nd Street.

The driver's vehicle "bounced off of the box truck" and struck another vehicle.

The alleged wrong-way driver was taken to the hospital after she was extracted from the vehicle by officials with the Greenfield Fire Department. She had surgery for a possible broken arm.

The driver of the box truck and the other vehicle this wrong-way driver hit were treated at the scene, Greenfield Fire officials said.

Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials will seek charges of second degree recklessly endangering safety, driving the wrong way on a highway, and DUI first offense.

All westbound lanes of I-894/I-43 were closed for two hours while crews worked this scene.
