Sheriff's OWI weekend patrols extended for Super Bowl Sunday
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- On Super Bowl Sunday, Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputies were on the lookout for drivers under the influence. This was in addition to the normal heightened weekend drunk driving patrols.
The big game provided a sales boost for bars like Milwaukee's Major Goolsby's, however, bartender Bryan Lux says it also provides some additional concerns.
"It's a sports bar. It's the Super Bowl. We look forward to it. (We're also) making sure people aren't drinking too much and not over serving," Lux said.
Meanwhile, as football fans celebrated, Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputies extended drunken driving patrols.
This is an effort Rafael Rosales is all too familiar with. He was recently arrested for OWI during weekend OWI patrols.
"At that time I had about six beers. I shouldn't have been on the road. I should have been home sleeping," Rosales said.
When FOX6 News spoke with Rosales, he said he was upset at how law enforcement treated him, but just as frustrated about his own decisions. At the time, law enforcement officials accused him of his fourth DUI. Court records show he was charged January 16th with refusal to take an intoxication test after his arrest.
"The reality is, I need to change my life. I'm 40 years old. I'm not getting any younger, and if I catch a fifth OWI the judge isn't going to be easy. He's going to throw the book at me," Rosales said.
On Sunday, football fans and deputies hoped the only loss suffered was on the football field.
