3 dead, including suspect, after home invasion, shootout in Kewaskum

Three people are dead in Washington County, including the suspect, after a home invasion led to a police shootout in Kewaskum.

Three people are dead in Washington County, including the suspect, after a home invasion led to a police shootout in Kewaskum Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 3, the sheriff's office said. 

Deputies responded after receiving a 911 call shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday from a resident on Forest View Road regarding a man who had forced his way into a home, demanding the keys to a vehicle. A second call came in minutes later, indicating an armed individual was seen walking toward the caller's home, who heard shots fired.

Police presence in Washington County

As deputies arrived, there was an exchange of gunfire with the armed individual, who fled on foot. He was soon found dead from an apparent gunshot wound. A firearm was found near him, the sheriff's office said.

A second person was found dead outside the home of the 911 caller; a witness telling investigators that person was shot by the armed man. 

During a search of nearby properties, SWAT officers located one additional victim that died of an apparent gunshot wound.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating the death of the armed individual. The sheriff's office is investigating the death of the resident.
