"Smoke in lavatory:" Commuter jet lands safely moments after leaving Mitchell Intl. Airport

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A US Airways commuter jet bound for Charlotte, North Carolina landed safely at Mitchell International Airport Tuesday afternoon, January 20th shortly after taking off from the Milwaukee airport. Officials with the airport say the crew turned the flight around because of some "issue on board."

The plane landed just before 2:45 p.m. -- and was followed on the tarmac by emergency vehicles. The plane was stopped on the tarmac for a few minutes before it taxied on.
