Snow hits Milwaukee Co., creates mess for drivers, air travelers

MILWAUKEE -- Most of Thursday, December 20th, it rained and rained in Milwaukee County. Just when drivers throughout the county thought they might be in the clear, the snow arrived in time for the evening rush.

The switch from rain to snow started happening around 3 p.m. Thursday. Drivers are being urged to really pay attention to everything around them; be defensive by allowing more space in between cars. 

The weather is also causing some issues for people flying out of Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport. A number of flights out of Mitchell were cancelled for Thursday evening because of the weather. That meant a change in plans for Tim Brusseau.

"My flight got cancelled into Milwaukee from Detroit. I rented a car and drove here. So it wasn't so bad," said Brusseau.

Despite the weather, the airport remained up and running.

"There are still some flights coming and going. So we always encourage people to contact their airline," said Mitchell International Airport spokesperson Harold Mester.

Back to the roads, the snow on Thursday definitely took its toll on taxi driver Haytham Hammad.

"It's very dangerous. It's challenging. It's tough. But somebody have to be it, someone have to do it. So it's got to be me," said Hammad.
