Snow in SE WI, expected Nor'easter impacts flights at General Mitchell International Airport

MILWAUKEE -- With snow falling all day on Monday, March 13th, there were numerous delays and cancellations at General Mitchell International Airport.

As of Monday afternoon, thousands of flights had been canceled. The majority are flights headed out to the East Coast -- from Washington, D.C. through New England, with a blizzard headed quickly toward the Northeast.

Karen Levy and her husband were two of those stranded at the airport Monday.

"We've been here all day. Playing ping pong and eating food. We thought we'd get out today to get to NY in time but our flight was delayed three times and canceled today. I'm pretty angry at the snow," Levy said.

In nearby Cudahy, residents were busy Monday digging out from about 10 inches of snow. It let up for a short time Monday evening, before lake effect snow moved through.

With snow falling all day, it was hard to keep up.

"I wanted to be the first guy on the block to fire up the lawnmower," Rick Nowak said.

But Mother Nature had a different plan.

"Shoveling out here -- hopefully for the last time. We were up at 4:30. The wife did the alley. I did the sidewalks in the front and a couple neighbors, so we all worked together," Nowak said.

All that hard work was quickly erased by Mother Nature.

"All of a sudden I look and it looked like I didn't even shovel," Nowak said.
