Snow Monday morning makes for a messy commute
WAUKESHA COUNTY (WITI) -- Snow on Monday morning, November 25th meant a messy morning commute!
FOX6's Rachelle Baillon rode along with Waukesha County Sheriff's deputies as they responded to crashes and stalled out vehicles.
Waukesha County Sheriff's Deputy Scott Knipfer says the first snowfall of the year is usually packed with the calls law enforcement officials saw on Monday.
"Numerous vehicles in the ditch, spinouts, a couple rollovers -- mostly just people driving too fast for the conditions. Also, people's following distance -- people following too closely, that causes rear-end accidents and it's just kind of a chain reaction out here in the snow," Knipfer said.
Some areas of southeastern Wisconsin saw over an inch of snowfall on Monday. During rush hour, the snow was sticking to the roadways -- which led to slick conditions and likely caused some of the crashes we saw Monday morning.
On Highway 41 near Appleton, a crash left a woman stuck in a tree!
Investigators say the woman's SUV rolled several times. The 66-year-old driver was not wearing a seat belt.
The driver was tossed six feet in the air, landing in a tree. She was hospitalized with serious injuries.
