Southwest Airlines launches new non-stop flights from Milwaukee to San Diego

MILWAUKEE -- Southwest Airlines is launching non-stop flights from General Mitchell International Airport to San Diego -- replacing an existing Saturday-only service.

That brings the number of Southwest non-stop flights leaving Mitchell Airport to 21.

Company officials say Southwest Airlines is now Milwaukee's largest carrier.

Below is a statement from Mitchell Airport officials:

Southwest Airlines launched its new daily nonstop service from Milwaukee County’s General Mitchell International Airport (MKE) to San Diego International Airport (SAN) today.  The new MKE-SAN daily nonstop service, which will operate year-round, replaces Southwest’s existing Saturday-only service.

“Southwest’s new nonstop service to San Diego offers both business and leisure travelers, here in Wisconsin and northern Illinois, a great option to reach the west coast,” County Executive Chris Abele said.  “We appreciate the wonderful partnership between Southwest Airlines, Mitchell Airport and the community, and we look forward to continued growth.”

With this addition, Southwest now flies to 21 destinations nonstop from Milwaukee. As with all Southwest flights, passengers enjoy full-size 737 aircraft, no change fees (fare difference might apply), and two free checked bags (size and weight limits apply). Travelers are reminded that Southwest flights can only be found online at www.southwest.com or 1-800-I-FLY-SWA.

“As we’ve grown to become Milwaukee’s largest carrier, we continuously add destinations that our Customers want to go to,” said Ryan Green, Southwest’s Vice President of Marketing. “We pride ourselves on connecting our Customers to what’s important in their lives and we are doing that through friendly, reliable, and low-cost air travel complete with Customer-friendly policies.”
