Special beach wheelchairs ready for use at Bradford thanks to Ramp Up MKE
MILWAUKEE -- Saturday brought great weather and a chance to hit up Bradford Beach for an event called "Ramp Up MKE."
Crews from Milwaukee County Parks and The Ability Center, installed matting all the way from the Bradford Beach tiki hut to the shore of Lake Michigan.
The mats will help people with disabilities to enjoy the full beach experience and Bradford will also accommodate special beach wheelchairs.
Organizers say the impact is huge.
"They key for us is it's not necessarily about the number of people today, but the fact that we opened up the beach, after today, for 25,000 extra Milwaukeeans -- that's pretty significant," said Damian Buchman, The Ability Center.
The beach wheelchairs will be available to check out for residents at any time from Milwaukee County Parks.
Organizers say that means full access, anytime for anyone that wants to visit, without having to worry about planning ahead.
