St. Francis man, Packers fan, accused of stealing liquor from grocery stores
RACINE COUNTY (WITI) -- A 30-year-old St. Francis man faces two counts of felony retail theft in Mount Pleasant -- and his support of the green and gold may have helped lead to his arrest. The accused is Jeffrey Miller.
According to the criminal complaint, Miller walked into two different Pick 'n Save stores in Mount Pleasant on separate dates last month. In each case, the complaint indicates Miller would grab paper products like toilet paper or paper towelling along with a big bag of dog food -- and then use those items to conceal liquor he was trying to steal from the store.
In the first instance on January 27th, Miller was spotted "wearing an older-style Green Bay Packers winter jacket." Store officials say more than $650 in merchandise was taken that day. On January 29th, Miller was seen wearing the same jacket -- and is suspected of stealing more than $762 worth of product.
Officers eventually made contact with Miller who did "admit that he would steal bottles of alcohol and cover it with dog food in order to hide it." Miller told officers that "he would sell the liquor to friends and bars in Milwaukee in order to support his drug habit."
If convicted, Miller faces up to three-and-a-half years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
