St. Josaphat Basilica lighting project unveiled Tuesday evening

MILWAUKEE (WITI) – The St. Josaphat Basilica Foundation will hold an unveiling ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 5:30 p.m. to show off its month-long project to light the Basilica’s Bell Towers, Portico and Visitors Center in addition to restoring the front steps.

The $230,000 enhancements included the installation of approximately 103 LED lanterns and lights to illuminate the 112-year-old historical landmark.

Tuesday's event is open to the public and all attendees are invited to meet in front of the Basilica on Lincoln Avenue for the lighting presentation.

This extensive project was both a historical enhancement as well as a safety precaution.

Decorative and highly functional lighting now fills the Portico, helping to emphasize the texture and details of the beautiful architecture and murals. Two triangular pediments, the inside of the Bell Towers of the Basilica and the stained-glass rosette window are also illuminated.

Following the completion of this major lighting project, the Foundation hopes to kick off a $500,000 fundraising initiative to light the Basilica’s Dome.
