Stamp Out Hunger food drive coming up May 12th

MILWAUKEE -- The "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive is coming up May 12th. It's the annual food collection done by letter carriers.

Postal workers are getting ready to send out reminder post cards, and will provide a bag for donations. Residents are asked to fill the bag with non-perishable food items and the donations will be collected by postal carriers to be delivered to needy families.

"People are very generous in southeastern Wisconsin. We appreciate that. This is the way that most of the food pantries, especially the Hunger Task Force stocks their food pantry.  Certainly the biggest one day food drive in the nation," Scott Van Derven, Food Drive Coordinator with the Hunger Task Force said.

Over the last 20 years, there has been a billion pounds of food collected nationwide. Last year, there was more than a million pounds of food donated in the metro-Milwaukee area.
